This morning, AHK Eastern Africa - Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa brought together a small group of German companies for an open exchange on 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐄𝐏𝐑) 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚.
The discussion focused on practical implementation realities. Several recurring themes emerged, including ongoing uncertainties around cost structures, the evolving role of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐬), and gaps in supporting infrastructure.
Participants highlighted the need for clearer guidance, greater transparency, and stronger coordination to support effective compliance. There was broad agreement on the importance of continued dialogue to help shape a more predictable and workable EPR framework.
Insights from the session will inform the EPR Process Guideline being developed by AHK and GFS on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment.
We thank BASF, Siemens, DHL, Everllence, and Wilo East Africa for their contributions.
