From 20 to 22 February 2026, AHK Eastern Africa - Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa, in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Education, State Department for TVET, participated in the Nairobi International Education Fair & WorkSkills Conference to promote Dual TVET as an industry-driven pathway linking skills development, apprenticeships, and sustainable employment.

AHK Eastern Africa - Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa, in collaboration with the 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐕𝐄𝐓, as part of the Communication and Marketing Project funded by KfW, participated in the recently concluded 𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 & 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. The event was hosted by Express Communications Ltd. in partnership with Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) and took place from 𝟐𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 at the Sarit Expo Centre, Nairobi.

 

The conference focused on strengthening the link between skills development, employer engagement, and sustainable pathways into work, particularly for young people transitioning from training into employment.
During the three-day event, the team actively promoted Dual TVET as a competence-based training model that integrates classroom learning with structured in-company training. Through engagements at the booth, the team created awareness among trainees, employers, policymakers, and training institutions on the value of industry-driven skills development.

 

In addition, AHK’s 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐕𝐄𝐓 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞, Mr. Bruno Backes, moderated the high-level panel discussion titled “𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤: 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬, 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 & 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.” The panel brought together experts from the NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AUTHORITY (NITA) and GIZ Kenya (DualTrainingProgramme). The discussion emphasized practical collaboration between industry and training institutions, recognition of prior learning, and the expansion of structured apprenticeship systems.

 

Through such platforms, AHK Eastern Africa - Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa continues to strengthen awareness and uptake of Dual TVET as a sustainable, employer-led pathway to quality employment and enhanced labour mobility.
