We were honoured to welcome Mr. Joel Mwanzia (Secretary, Directorate of Labour Migration Management), Mr. Festus Mutuse (Director of Labour Migration), and Ms. Alice Chonga (Assistant Director for Labour Migration) for a candid exchange on Kenya's labour mobility agenda and Mr. Nelson Rono Principal Labour Migration officer.

ย

ย  ย  ย Key highlights from our discussion:

  • Institutional mandates โ€“ aligning AHK's work in TVET and Labour Mobility with the Directorate's priorities on managed labour migration.
  • Kenya's labour mobility objectives โ€“ understanding government priorities for skills development, employment promotion, and structured labour migration pathways.
  • Areas for collaboration โ€“ exploring how our respective mandates can complement each other in skills development, employment promotion, and labour mobility programming.
  • Next steps โ€“ we agreed on priority areas for continued engagement and designated focal points to keep the momentum going.

Conversations like this matter. Kenya's youth unemployment challenge and the opportunities in labour mobility require close coordination between government and organizations working on the ground in TVET and skills development. Grateful for the openness and clarity from the Directorate's team and looking forward to building on this partnership.
