Conference: German Kenyan Food Processing and Packaging Forum

This event was organized by AHK Eastern Africa - Delegation of German Industry and Commerce for Eastern Africa in cooperation with SBS systems for business solutions GmbH and VDMA on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). It brought together leading German and Kenyan food processing and packaging companies. We aimed to foster insightful discussions on the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities within the industry landscape.

We were privileged to welcome H.E. Sebastian Groth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kenya, and Mr. Carsten Ehlers, Director for East Africa at Germany Trade & Invest, to the event. We were especially honored to have Dr Juma Mukhwana, PhD, CBS, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Industry in the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, in attendance. PS Mukhwana delivered a compelling keynote speech, emphasizing the Kenyan government's commitment to industrial growth and its strategic vision for enhancing the food processing and packaging sector through international collaborations. His remarks underscored the importance of such forums in driving investment and technological transfer within Kenya.

German companies and the Kenyan audience received a comprehensive overview of the Kenyan economy, with a deep dive into the nuances of the food processing and packaging sector. The German side of food processing was presented by Mr. Denis Börner from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Mr. Daniel Dellemann from the VDMA. Many thanks to the setting the scene input by Mr. James Odongo, KEPRO Kenya CEO and Ms. Hannah Muthoni Kiarie from the Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry.
